A Nautical School Girl

Little Sisters Gotz Doll Katie

Meet Katie!  She is a Little Sisters doll from the German doll company, Gotz.  Little Sisters dolls are 18″ dolls, nearly identical in size to American Girl.  They can share all clothing made for American Girl dolls, whether manufactured or handmade.

Today she is wearing a dress sewn from a wonderful Melody Valerie Couture pattern called School Girl.  Melody Valerie Couture patterns are a little more expensive versus many other 18″ doll patterns, but in my opinion they are worth the price difference!  The pattern pieces go together beautifully and your finished piece  will be heirloom quality.  This dress has a fully lined bodice and zips in the back.  If you are new to sewing Melody Valerie patterns are a great way to learn new sewing skills!

Katie is wearing a hat knit from the Trendy Slouch Hat Knitting Pattern by 123 Mulberry Street.  This is a very easy pattern that is knit flat with basic stitches.  As a final touch, I threaded white ribbon through the ribbing area.

I think Katie looks quite beautiful in her summer dress.  Do you agree?

If I remember correctly, wasn’t Gotz who made the very first American Girl dolls? She is very cute, that outfit is perfect on her. One of these days I need to learn how to knit and crochet, I see too many cute doll things I could make.

Yes! Gotz did manufacture the first AG dolls. Katie’s body is exactly the same as early Pleasant Company dolls. The newer Mattel dolls are generally have slightly less girth, but Katie has fit into every American Girl manufactured outfit that I’ve tried on her.

Mary, she is a long retired Gotz “Little Sister” doll. Listings for the Little Sisters pop up on eBay fairly regularly and I’ve seen them priced from $25-$100. Keep your eyes open for a good deal!
